Solution Focused Hypnotherapy

What is solution-focused hypnotherapy (“SFH”)?

Imagine being bitten by a snake, and instead of looking for the anti-venom, you chase after the snake to ask why it bit you and argue that you didn’t deserve it.

This is an old story about healing, and while it may seem to disregard the very human need we all have to understand, question and make sense of what happens to us and why we behave the way we do, at its heart it goes to the very centre of what SFH is all about.

SFH differs from traditional talking therapies in that we don’t endlessly discuss the problem. The aim is to get you to where you want to be from where you are: we look forward instead of staying stuck.

How does SFH work?

SFH is a combination of talking therapy and trance. We know so much more about the brain and how it works than we did even just 10 years ago, and SFH uses cutting-edge knowledge and techniques to help you work from the prefrontal cortex of your brain – the part that comes up with solutions, is rational and deals calmly with whatever is happening in our lives. The trance part of the session then enables the subconscious part of the brain to process and embed the talking work we have done and effect positive change.

What is trance?

Trance is very similar to REM sleep, during which we process the events of our day. We go in and out of trance many times a day: when we are walking, watching TV, reading or even driving a regular route. It is completely normal.  You won’t feel drowsy afterwards, in fact many clients comment on how refreshed they feel, as if they have had a lovely nap and ready to re-engage with the world.
